Innovation grows from everyday problem-solving inside cooperatives.

Why Innovation Matters

Across cooperatives, change often emerges from the need to respond to practical challenges – whether in how work is organised, how services are delivered, or how enterprises engage with markets.

These shifts emerge as women adapt existing models to new conditions.

What Challenges Are Emerging

Many innovations remain local and difficult to sustain or scale beyond their immediate context. Cooperatives often experiment with new approaches without formal recognition, financial support, or systems that help consolidate and extend these efforts.

At the same time, external models introduced without grounding in cooperative structures can disrupt existing practices rather than strengthen them.

Our Approach

The focus is on recognising and strengthening innovations that emerge from within cooperatives. This includes documenting practices, supporting adaptation across contexts, and creating space for experimentation.

Examples of this can be seen across sectors—from worker-led service models such as Saundarya Safai and Rachaita, to communication and media initiatives like Video SEWA, and locally embedded systems such as Krishi Suvidha Kendras (KSKs) that respond to agricultural needs.

Rather than introducing new models, the work builds on what cooperatives are already doing and supports how these practices evolve over time.
